Being a fundament in its natural capital strategy, Dasos, as a land owner, establishes and maintains up-to-date inventory and records of all identified natural capital assets and values on its land and forest properties. Such natural capital assets include e.g. land, trees, carbon sequestration, biodiversity features, and sensitive ecosystems. The general target is to enhance all natural capital assets and values on the property.
In addition to commercial values, the inventory and records importantly aim at identifying and mapping the presence of rare species. Such information is stored and maintained in geographic information systems (GIS), enabling locally conservation of rare species and sensitive ecosystems. The forest information system with up-to date conservation zoning supports FSC® and/or PEFC® certification, and it is required for forest management planning at operational, tactical and strategic levels.
Dasos contractually requires all co-operation partners (e.g. wind & solar developers, wood procurement services, silviculture contractors, etc.) explicitly to commit and operate within the frame provided by applicable legislation, forest certification criteria, and the spatial forest information system. This includes sensitive ecosystem features and zones with restricted or forbidden access by machinery. Overall purpose of limiting forest operations and machine access in time or space is to protect sensitive ecosystems and endangered species.
