The market for renewable energy, especially wind & solar, is emerging as a substantial market for biodiversity. There is an increasing need to offset the forest and biodiversity loss resulting from development of renewable energy. The cost of compensating for the loss of biodiversity – by set aside conservation areas – is to be included in the price of the produced renewable energy.
Several wind and solar power projects are ongoing, and even more are planned, on forest lands managed by Dasos Capital. These projects aim to be biodiversity positive: negative impacts to nature by a renewable energy development project have been avoided as far as possible, and finally residual impacts are compensated. Ecological impact and forest loss are measured on the impact site, and a corresponding compensatory action takes place on the offset site.
The demand for truly green energy, i.e., bioenergy positive renewable energy, is increasing and it is not difficult to produce.
